Wireless Cameras That Really Are Wireless

Wireless cameras...that really are wireless. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Whether it's for keeping an eye on the kids, the pet, or the backyard swimming pool, camera systems can add to your peace of mind. Usually, cameras that are billed as being wireless, still need to be plugged in for power. But a company called Avaak has created what it calls the Vue Personal Video Network....which uses two battery operated cameras that communicate with a wireless gateway. The trick is the cameras are only on when you access them through a PC or a smartphone...and so the batteries in them can last for about a year. CEO Gioia Messinger...

"They're not intended to be used 7/24 although we have customers that do that. But in essence these are...hey, let me see what's going on at my house. I'll check in for a few minutes."

Costco sells the system with two cameras and free lifetime service for 250 dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
