Should you pay for software to protect your PC? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Just about everyone these days is aware of the need to protect their computers from the various online threats that are out there. And there are lots of choices. Microsoft offers a free security suite. And so does Avast, which has 100 million users around the world. The company also has a paid version. So what should you do? Avast CEO Vince Steckler...
"We tell users that if they're using the Internet for emailing, for Web browsing, just for normal activities, use our free product. But if they're doing sensitive things on the Internet, for example, using their credit cards or doing online banking, then we really think they should have the extra protection of what we call our Internet Security Suite."
Avast is currently offering two years of protection for up to three PCs for sixty dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
