Will the Chevy Volt Put a Charge in GM?

Techstination feature for Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Will the Chevy Volt put a charge in GM? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. The new Chevy Volt is arriving in limited markets around the country and it drives like a solidly made small car with lots of bells and whistles for technology fans including five years of On Star service. There's also a 30 gig hard drive, Bluetooth, iPhone connectivity and more. You can drive about 40 miles without using a drop of gasoline before a gas powered generator kicks in. After a test drive, I spoke with Frank Moultrie, UAW manager at the Detroit plant where the Volt is being made....

"My hope is that we start building 120 thousand of these a year, and then some. We're starting out with ten thousand for the 2011 model year. " In just certain states as well. " Certain states. There's seven markets right now we're marketing to but within the next 12 to 18 months, we're planning on getting out to the entire 50 states."

Tax credits right now take some of the bite out of the base 41 thousand dollar price tag. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
