New LED TV technology from LG

Techstination feature for Monday, January 3, 2011

New LED TV technology from LG.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   With the International Consumer Electronics Show getting underway this week, LG will be showing off what it calls a Nano LED backlight system.   It uses film with LEDs embedded that allows full backlighting in a less that one inch thick screen that is also 3D capable.    LG Electronics director of new product development Tim Alessi…

“Well what you’ll see is a brighter picture.  But where it will really stand out is in the black areas.   Shadow detail and black levels.   Because with local dimming, with full LED, you can really isolate the areas of the screen that need to be darker and lighter and adjust the lights for those areas accordingly. ”

LG’s Tim Alessi.     The competition, of course, is intense and there’s much more news from the Consumer Electronics Show to come.   You can check out the latest interviews from the show and more at   I’m Fred Fishkin.
