Keeping Track of Your Life... Online

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 4, 2000

Keeping your personal organizer online. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. It's a hot new category of service on the Internet. There are a number of companies such as eCal working behind the scenes on software that will let you store your appointments and such on the web so whether you're at home or at work...the information is right there. A site called Zkey.com is taking a Swiss Army Knife approach...letting you store appointments, your address book, email and files of all kinds. Zkey VP Darren Jordan...says once you've stored everything on the web, you can decide what information you want to share and with whom....

"So what that means, for example, I could give you access to something so specific as my cell phone number or my email address and then to someone else, I could give them access to my home address or my work address of GIFs or hobbies or whatever. Whatever you want to share with other people, whatever information you want to provide to other people, you can set up at our site."

It's free and uses technology called WAP, wireless application protocol...

"Which means if you have a web browser enabled cell phone, you can actually go through your phone and access your address book or your calendar, your email without even actually having to be on the Internet."

Pretty cool. And the plan is to add synchronization with handheld computers like the Palm soon.
