The New Computer Dilemma

Techstination feature for Wednesday, January 5, 2000

The new computer dilemma. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Okay, so you've finally gone out and bought a new PC. It's a whole lot faster and has tons of room for files and programs....but the problem is...you still have all of your stuff on the old machine. What do you do? Well, there are programs like Norton Ghost from Symantec that will let you clone your old computer. But a company called Eisenworld has developed an innovative solution it calls Aloha Bob...

"The origin of the name is based off the nickname of a gentleman who does live in Hawaii who goes by the name of Aloha Bob. And his son is a computer expert who happens to be our lead programmer."

Eisenworld's Bob Haeffner. Aloha Bob is what the company calls a PC-relocator. Attach the new computer to the old one with either a parallel or network connection....

"And we bring everything over and integrate it into your new system. For example, all of your applications, your data files, your network settings, everything, so when you go onto your new computer after this process you're going to feel right at home. You're going to have the screensaver, wallpaper. It's going to match up exactly like your old computer."

It handles transfers from Windows 95 to Windows 98 without a hitch and won't muck up the hardware settings on the new machine. One drawback, it doesn't allow you to be selective about what you move. It takes everything. You can find more information at alohabob.com.
