Using a smartphone to control music around the house

Techstination feature for Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Wireless music around the house controlled by your smartphone.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Sonos is a company that has been on the market for years with devices that let consumers play their own digital music and content from the Internet all around the house.    Now it has added a free app for Android phones to go along with its iPhone and iPad apps….to  make controlling Sonos equipment, like the S5 speaker,  cheaper and better.    Co-founder Tom Cullen says ...the Android app brings voice control capability…

“Let’s say you’re in the kitchen, you’re working on something,  you want to change the music.  With the Android, you can grab your phone, literally speak into it and say I’d like to hear a band and you could actually say I’d like to hear a specific track and that would pop right up onto your screen.   That’s a feature built into the Android operating system that we were able to take advantage of.”

There’s more info at Sonos.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
