A Universe of Help For Your Own Website

Techstination feature for Friday, January 7, 2000

Creating your own website? Put some cool tools to use for free. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. The web isn't a spectator sport. Anyone with a computer and access to the net can play. Most Internet service providers will give you the space for your own web site. And you can even set up your own online business. A site called liveuniverse.com offers all the tools you need....

"What we're trying to do is really break down the barriers to entry for any entrepreneur or any individual to become a participant in the Internet economy. To really publish a site that's a real web business or a real web community for free, really easily, you don't need any technical skills. You just come to our site and we'll help you, walk you through a process to publish a site for yourself."

Seth Tapper of Live Universe says they'll even host and maintain the site for you...for free. The company makes money by splitting revenue from advertising or transactions. And the tools will help you build web traffic... What good is a site if nobody visits...

"So to keep people coming back to your site, we offer message boards and chat rooms and greeting card service ...all this kind of stuff that you can put under your own brand and your own look on your site to serve a community that you want to serve."

You'll find some interesting examples of what you can do ...such as Jim Carrey and Monty Python fan sites...at LiveUniverse.com.
