Name That Tune in the digital age: SoundHound update

Techstination feature for Friday, March 18, 2011

Name that tune…in the digital age.    I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.      Name that Tune was an old TV game show where contestants would hear snippets of songs and have to come up with the title.   Now….all you need is an app.   One of the best, SoundHound, is out with an update that adds some new capabilities.   VP Katie McMahon…

You’re sitting in a café,  there’s music playing in the speakers there, you pull out SoundHound, tap the orange button, and instantly we’ll grab that sound sample, return the name of the song, the artist, show you lyrics.”

You can even just hum a song and it works.  At least for most people.  The basic version is free for IOS and Android and now includes auto share, linking to Facebook and Twitter.   And the premium version has  added song recommendations based on your taste.  The app again is SoundHound.   You can find us with archives, interviews and more at   I’m Fred Fishkin.
