Hands on with the Nintendo 3DS

Techstination feature for Monday, March 28, 2011

Hands on with the Nintendo 3DS.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   This year’s big thing in video games comes from the latest little handheld machine from Nintendo.   The 3DS can play an assortment of games designed for its glasses-free 3D screen….18 at launch…with about 30 in all by June….but it puts players in full control of the 3D effects with a clever slide bar next to the screen.     Put a 3D game in someone’s hands…and the first word you’ll typically hear is, “Wow.”      There is a 3D camera built in and some fun games built in, like Face Raiders.     And Nintendo is looking to broaden the appeal of the shirt pocket sized game machine with the upcoming release of a full Internet browser, free access to AT&T Hotspots and the ability to stream movies and TV shows from Netflix.   One downside to the 3D screen is diminished battery life.   The price, about 250 dollars.   You can find us at   I’m Fred Fishkin.
