Playing with Blackberry's PlayBook

Techstination feature for Monday, April 25, 2011

Playing with Blackberry’s PlayBook.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Research in Motion, maker of BlackBerry smartphones, has entered the tablet wars with the PlayBook.   With a 7 inch screen, it is smaller than the iPad and that can be both good and bad.  Apple’s big screen is nice for photos and videos but the smaller screens make it more portable.    What’s impressive about the PlayBook is the speedy dual core processor, ample memory, multi-tasking and the overall interface.     While Research in Motion has been criticized for releasing the PlayBook before all of its features are ready,   Co-CEO Jim Balsillie says…

“Well I think that’s what everyone sells in the platform business.  I mean everybody has upgrades, everybody has new capabilities.   So, is there a tremendous value proposition out of the gate?  Absolutely.”

Even while there are some capabilities buyers will have to wait for,  the BlackBerry PlayBook has plenty to impress,  especially for users of BlackBerry phones.    You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
