Big screens get bigger. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. The hottest selling category of TVs this year has been those giant sized models…in the 60 inch range. Now Sharp is out with a screen that makes those 60 inch TVs look small. It’s a whopping 70 inches. Who will buy a screen that big? Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America President John Herrington…
“We think males, very much, are involved in this purchase process and it’s sort of a trophy television. So we think that suburban males that want to have the biggest and the finest television hanging in their home.”
And the first 70 inch model, priced at about 37 hundred dollars, is just the start…
“We’ll actually introduce four different models this year. This summer we’ll launch a 240 hz version and then later 3D will come. So this summer there will be two additional models.”
