The need for speed. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. We aren’t talking about the latest racing video game from Electronic Arts. The push continues for faster performance and faster connections with PCs, tablets and even smartphones. Intel has announced it will begin mass production of a 3D Tri-Gate transistor that will use half the power and improve performance by more than a third. In the meantime, when it comes to speed, more computer makers are incorporating the USB 3.0 standard in new machines. But it can take special cables and USB 3.0 drives to take advantage of the ten fold increase in speed over USB 2.0. Accell’s Ultra Run USB 3.0 cables include a built-in amplifier and that can maintain the super high speed connection over 19 feet. And Seagate’s line of Go-Flex drives are capable of taking advantage of the speedy connections. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
