Kingston announces WiDrive wireless portable IOS storage

Techstination feature for Thursday, June 2, 2011

Some added storage for iPads, that fits in your pocket.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Flash memory maker Kingston has announced a new shirt pocket sized gadget that combines memory with WiFi.   The idea is your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch connects to it via that built in WiFi…to access music, video, photos and more that are stored on the device.   Kingston flash memory business manager Andrew Ewing says it is called the Wi-Drive…

And it’s a way to access additional data that you can store on the Wi-Drive.  So you use the Wi-Drive like an external USB drive, load it with some content, and then by downloading the app in the App Store, you can access your content that’s stored on the Wi-Drive wirelessly.”  So it actually creates its own little WiFi network?  “Yes.”

Multiple Apple devices can connect to it at the same time.   16 and 32 gigabyte versions of the Wi-Drive are arriving starting at about 130 dollars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
