Getting Your Bills and Paying Them... Online

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 18, 2000

Nobody likes to pay bills. But going online can make the chore a little easier. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. If you're doing your banking online, like a lot of people are these days, chances are you have the option of online bill payment. Another option, is to use a specialized service on the web, like Paytrust.

"Paytrust is an Internet service that's designed to get rid of one of the tasks people hate the most, which is dealing with the bills every month. With Paytrust, all of your bills are delivered to you through one secure website and with a single click, you can pay them."

Paytrust President Ed McLaughlin. The first three months are free. After that, that charge is 8.95 for up to 25 transactions a month. Not much more than what the postage alone would cost. Once you sign up, your bills will be sent to Paytrust instead of to your mailbox. You get notified by email when bills arrive and again just before they're due. It's up to you whether you want them paid automatically or only when you say so. You can view the actual bills on the web and even print them out...

"The other thing it does for you is your stack of filing goes away. If you ever need to find a bill from the past it's right there at your fingertips. And we link into Quicken, Money and Exel if you're using that to manage your finances."

Again, it's free to try for three months at Paytrust.com.
