IBM at 100.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    It started out as the Computing Tabulating and Recording Company in Endicott, New York, 100 years ago this month.  And there are few companies that have changed the world as much as IBM over the last century.  From helping the government offer assistance during the Great Depression to providing the computing power to put a man on the moon, there have been many milestones.  Some of them surprising.   We spoke to Fellow and Vice President of Innovation, Dr. Bernie Myerson…

    “You keep going and you see all sorts of things in modern use today that aren’t really seemingly connected, but derived directly from our work.   Such as magnetic strip on the back of your credit card.  It’s an IBM innovation.  If you look at bar codes on virtually everything you purchase, another IBM innovation.  It really has been an amazing hundred years and I expect it to continue.”
