Techstination feature for Wednesday, June 29, 2011

A versatile GPS gadget for hiking trails or the road.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Magellan has updated its Explorist line of navigation devices ranging from the Explorist 310, for under two hundred dollars, up to the Explorist 710 at about 550 dollars which  features turn by turn directions, a digital compass and a 3.2 megapixel camera.  About typical uses,  Marketing director Justin Doucette says…

“There’s all different types of usage.  There’s the ability to mark where you parked your vehicle, so you can always find your way back.  Even if you forgot to mark your vehicle, you’re just tracking, there’s a feature called backtrack.  Backtrack will basically, the GPS will navigate you, in reverse, the same way you came.”

Great tools for the great outdoors.    The Explorist series is ruggedized to take a beating and the devices run on AA batteries, so you don’t have to worry about recharging.   You can find more info at Magellangps.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
