Changing the face of digital photography. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Digital cameras have added all kinds of features, like face recognition, smile detection, even pet recognition over the years. But now a new kind of camera that lets you change the focus after you’ve snapped the picture promises to change everything. It’s from a company called Lytro, where VP for product management Kira Wampler says it uses what is called light field technology…
“When you take a picture with a conventional camera, you’re just capturing a two dimensional plane of light. But when you take a light field picture, that you’ll be able to do with our camera, you actually capture all of the light traveling in every direction, in every dimension in space.”
You can see what cool stuff the technology can do at Lytro.com. The first camera is due out this year. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
