A new Android phone with a focus on design. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. HTC’s Rhyme has arrived on Verizon Wireless. And while the 200 dollar price for a smartphone is fairly typical, what’s in the box is not. The plum colored Rhyme includes a docking station with speakers for turning the handset into a clock radio. There’s also a charm that plugs into the headphone jack that lights up. HTC’s VP of design Scott Croyle…
“So basically, when the phone is in your pocket and you don’t hear it vibrate or maybe you’re in a meeting, or you’re at a restaurant where you actually can’t have the phone on ringer mode, the charm basically, it’s a way to notify you. It’s kind of a more refined, quiet way of notifying you that somebody’s trying to contact you.”
Also included is a tangle free headset matching the color of the Rhyme phone. It is a more gender specific device than any other smartphone out there. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
