Long wait for Sony PS Vita almost over

Techstination feature for Friday, January 6, 2012

The long wait for Sony’s PlayStation Vita is nearly over.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Sony’s new handheld gaming machine, the PS Vita, is already on sale in Japan and is due to arrive in the U.S. next month.     The physical design is similar to Sony’s PSP handheld…but there’s more real estate for the screen.   Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Crystal MacKenzie says it a different kind of handheld altogether…

“It kind of brings that competitive immersion that you get on your console to your hand.  You’ve got your two analog sticks, you’ve got all your traditional controls, plus you’ve got front and rear multi-touch, you have six axis and you also have 3G connectivity which is amazing.”

That’s in the 299 dollar version of the PS Vita.   The WiFi only version is fifty dollars less.  There are front and rear cameras as well.   Sony  and third parties have been busy working on games which they hope will generate excitement right from the start.   There’s more info and pre-ordering at PSVita.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
