Making international calls for free with an iPhone.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   An app called ChatTime for the iPhone is touting the ability for users to make international calls for free.   What’s the catch?   For the call to be free the person on the other end also has to be using ChatTime.   So then, how is it different from Skype?    SmartRoam co-founder and president Doug Simpson…

“Instead of using the Internet to transmit the call from the iPhone, which is how our low cost calling competitors typically do it, we use the mobile voice network which is the same as when you make a local call with your mobile phone.  So you get the same mobile call quality and mobility.  And we’ve been able to extend this to free international calls between ChatTime customers in 53 countries.  And our customers are still able to call any phone in the world from any country in the world at a really low per minute rate.”

There’s more info at ChatTimeapp.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
