Wireless charging everywhere. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. If you’re tired of having multiple chargers plugged in all over the place for your electronic gadgets, you’re not alone. But help is on the way. The Wireless Power Consortium is behind a standard called Qi, spelled Q I….that is being embraced by more and more makers of smartphones, tablets and other devices. It will bring standardized surfaces that you can put your stuff on… and the charging will begin. And the consortium’s Camille Tang says there are few limits to what it can be used with…
“The vision really is that you can just drop it and with a Qi logo on either the device or the charging surface, literally you can have power and charging anywhere and everywhere you see that. And the idea is really to roll it out and it’s a big ecosystem.”
You’ll be seeing more Qi enabled products and charging devices this year and the hope is, that’s just the start. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
