SanDisk SD cards reach 128 gigabytes

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 31, 2012

More smartphones and tablets mean more demand for flash memory.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    With smartphones and tablets taking the place of computers for many consumers….people want to put more stuff in them…music, photos, videos and more.   So capacities are growing.   That’s good news for flash memory maker SanDisk, where CEO Sanjay Mehrotra tells us…

“As the technology advances, you’re going to see higher capacity, whether embedded inside the device or in card forms through the cards that SanDisk sells.”  You’ve announced a new SD card here too… “That’s right.  So this card has been announced.  This is 128 gigabyte SD card.  It’s a high performance card SD Extreme.”

That means it’s expensive for now, but lower prices for large capacities seem to be inevitable.  You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
