Need stuff for a Mac? I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Macs have been gaining popularity, thanks in large part to Apple’s success with the iPhone, iPod and iPad. But when you need add-ons or upgrades for a Mac, Apple often makes it pretty expensive. That’s where a company called Other World Computing has carved out a niche. It was founded 23 years ago by Larry O’Connor….and it’s quite a story. Back in those days ..just to add some memory…
“You’d sign all the paper work, leave your computer, have to come back, have to drive back two days later. At that point pay 80 dollars for what I’d later find out was about 5 minutes worth of installation work. I took the approach, let’s provide the same quality product, provide information on how you can do this yourself and provide the memory itself at a better cost.” How old were you when you started this company? “Fourteen. My budget was much smaller.” You were fourteen years old when you started Other World Computing… “Yes sir.”
And he still does business at OWC and MacSales.com pretty much the same way. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
