Tykoon helps parents teach kids about money

Techstination feature for Monday, April 30, 2012

A new Web site to help parents teach children about money.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    Lots of parents find that it isn’t so easy to teach their kids about money.  How to save, how to spend, even how to give.    A site called Tykoon…spelled T-y-k-o-o-n… aims to help.   CEO,  co-founder and dad Mark Bruinooge….

“The platform allows families to establish allowances and chores and basically a routine in the household, that when the child accomplishes something, like for example a week’s worth of chores, or for example, mowing the lawn, if that’s one of the jobs they’re doing around the house, when that child earns money for that, the family is allowed to establish a savings bucket, a giving bucket and a spending bucket on our platform.”

There’s a iOS app as well and Tykoon has partnered with Amazon for kids safe shopping, controlled by parents.   The site promises both privacy and protection for families with full parental monitoring.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
