A thermostat that knows where you are. EverSense.

Techstination feature for Thursday, May 3, 2012

A thermostat that knows where you are.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.      It’s called EverSense.  A new thermostat due to arrive on the market this year from Allure Energy.   It isn’t much bigger than a standard thermostat but features a touch screen, stereo speakers,  a Linux operating system and the ability to stay connected to smartphones.   The idea, says CEO Kevin Imes, is to allow the thermostat to know where you and other household members are…

“So first, it actually manages your energy based on your proximity to your home.  So what that means is that as you’re driving away from home, it will adjust your thermostat up for you, and as you’re driving home it will start cooling your house off or heating it, depending on where you’re at.  It does it automatically in the background”

The EverSense will also be able to display photos from your network or play music and can be controlled by voice as well.  It’s due to arrive this summer for about 350 dollars.   There’s more info at allure-energy.com.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
