Nokia, Microsoft prove still room for more smartphone competition

Techstination feature for Monday, June 4, 2012

Nokia and Microsoft are proving that there is room for more smartphone competition.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   With its beautifully designed Lumia 900 available on AT&T, Nokia is proving that it still has the know how to create a great phone.   It has a 4.3 inch AMOLED screen and just feels fast.   And that is good news for Microsoft and its Windows Phone operating system.   The tile interface takes a little getting used to if you’re coming from an iPhone or Android device.   But once you’re past that, it’s fun and intuitive.  And Nokia VP Bryan Biniak says the partnership is helping to get developers build more apps..

“We want the best possible consumer experience that we can get.  And so instead of just porting all of these applications over from other platforms, we’re stepping back with them and saying how can we do it better, how can we do it differently.”

For consumers,  more competition and more choice, are good things.
