Yahoo’s latest tool for search and browsing. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It is called Axis. An app for iOS devices like iPhones and iPads and a plug-in for browsers on PCs. It uses thumbnails for its search interface, making it more simpler to see if results on a page are really what you’re looking for. And on iOS, says director of product management Ethan Batraski…
“We actually built a full featured mobile browser. The brower’s meant to replace Safari, have every feature Safari has, but it has two more main benefits. The first is that search is actually built into the browser itself. The other benefit is that you can actually start doing something on your iPad and continue on your iPhone seamlessly. All your devices are now connected together.”
There have been reports about some security concerns with Axis. In the meantime, Yahoo says versions are in the works for Android and Windows Phone platforms as well.
