Sphero keeps rolling along. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Combining physical toys with apps is getting to be a pretty hot category. But a little ball called Sphero from Orbotix takes the experience to a higher level altogether. It comes with a charger base and Sphero easily pairs with iOS or Android mobile devices and tablets via Bluetooth. Downloadable apps let you control the movement of the ball and play a variety of games. And while about a hundred thirty dollars seems like a lot to pay for a ball that rolls around the floor, Chief technology officer and founder Ian Bernstein points out…
“So think like a Segway inside of a ball. We have sensors, gyros, accelerometers in it, very complex control system to make this self-balancing robot that’s in this sphere.”
It’s cool, it’s fun and there’s a lot more to come. Orbotix has opened the door for other developers too. You can find more info at Sphero.com. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
