Kurio tablet for kids & families on the way

Techstination feature for Thursday, July 12, 2012

A tablet designed for kids and families.   I’m Fred Fishkin with Technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Kids love tablets …but  are prone to drop things…and there are worries about what content the kids might be exposed to online.   So Technosource has developed a 7 inch ruggedized Android tablet called the Kurio that includes parental controls.  Division head Eric Levin…

“Let’s say you have a 13 year old and a 7 year old and there’s a hundred apps that you’ve downloaded.  Maybe you think only twenty of them are appropriate for your 7 year old, so you can make those show up in that profile.  But maybe fifty of them are appropriate for your older child.  As well, maybe your older child, he’s allowed to use it when he gets home from school, but otherwise you don’t want to distract from his homework.  So he can only log in, say, between three and five in the afternoon.”

Kurio has its own marketplace for apps, but many come pre-loaded.  The price, about 200 dollars.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
