An Online Environment for Kids... Alfy

Techstination feature for Friday, March 3, 2000

An online environment for kids. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Children...even toddlers...exploring the Web by themselves. I don't think so....is probably what you are thinking. But you can turn them loose at a site called Alfy.com Download a free program called the Alfy Shield...that filters content and restricts where children can go online. And then...let them roam. As the cursor moves over different activities...even kids who can't read know what to do. The Web site talks....

Clubhouse, Create, Arcade, Surprises... "

There are online interactive storybooks...

"Alfy Goes to School. Halloween Tale. Alfy's Snow Day, Alfy's Broken Toy." Let's click on that one... (sound) Alfy CEO Yaron Ben-Shaul says the site, designed with educators, is for three to nine year olds...

And it's currently the first bridge that gives these young kids to do their first step into the online world. And we are doing it by creating, for the first time, an interface which is a complete audio-visual interface."

There's information on the site for teachers and parents as well. It's spelled a-l-f-y dot com.
