Garmin adding pedestrian and public transportation modes to Navigon apps

Techstination feature for Wednesday, September 19, 2012

An updated navigation app that makes it easy to get where you’re going in cities even when you’re out of the car.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Garmin is out with updated StreetPilot Onboard and Navigon apps for iPhones and Android that add some worthwhile new functions to navigation by smartphone.   Media Releations Specialist Johan-Till Broer….

“With the new updates you’ll be able to integrate public transportation and pedestrian navigation into your routes.  So, for example, when you drive somewhere, you can easily switch into pedestrian mode and then walk to the train station and it will tell you which train you have to get on and where to get off.  And then when you leave the station you continue walking and it will provide you directions for that as well.”

The regular price for the Urban Guidance add-on is five dollars.   That’s on top of the cost of the full Navigon apps which run about fifty dollars.    You can navigate to us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
