How great is Windows 8?   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   If you’re out there shopping for a new computer…other than a Mac…odds are you’re going to wind up with one running Windows 8.   Many of the new PCs designed for it have touch screens…and that’s the secret to making it cool and really new.   The Live Tiles that you simply touch on to launch apps, specific Web sites and such are as simple to use as a smartphone or tablet.  In fact that are lots of tablet and hybrid tablet slash notebooks running Windows 8 too.  But there is somewhat of a learning curve.   Microsoft Windows VP Julie Larson Green…

“Well whenever there’s a change, it takes people a minute to go, oh, it’s changed.    And we found through all of our user testing that when people are having fun, and it’s a lot of fun, they’re really open to exploring and learning.  So you really only need to know two things to get started.  If you have a tablet and you just swipe with your thumb from the edges and if you have a mouse, you mouse into the corners.  And just knowing those two things will get you started very easily and then you’ll discover more as you go.”

Upgrade pricing starts as low as 39 dollars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
