Breaking out the camera for family photos for the holidays?     I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   This is the time of year when families and friends gather and those digital cameras get put to use.   And if you  want to take better pictures, pro photographer Rick Sammon has iPhone and iPad apps that can help.  And perhaps his number one tip is….

“When you think you’re close, get closer.  And this is true.  If you’re photographing someone around the holidays, indoors, if there’s a lot of carpet in the picture,  if there’s a lot of wall, a lot of ceiling, the picture’s not going to have the impact.  If I’m in Africa photographing wild life,  I’ll take the environmental shot.  But if I want that detailed shot, if I want to see the animal’s face, I’m going to get closer.  So when you think you’re close, get closer.”
