Spending too much on cell service? Republic Wireless.

Techstination feature for Monday, January 7, 2013

Spending too much on cell phone service?   A money saving option from Republic Wireless.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   It isn’t offering the latest, greatest phones.  But Republic Wireless does offer a respectable Motorola Android handset.  And the price for unlimited talk, text and data is just 19 dollars a month.  The catch?  The phone isn’t subsidized so it will cost more than one with a carrier contract.  And the service will use WiFi when available, and Sprint’s network when it’s not.  Co-founder and CEO David Morken….

“Sixty percent of the time our subscribers are using that phone over WiFi to do any number of activities.  Whether it’s to communicate with their social network or look at rich media applications through a browser.  The behavior is very consistent with what you would expect on a traditional  smartphone.”

The savings can add up quickly.   There’s more info at RepublicWireless.com.   You can find us with archives, interviews, giveaways and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
