Some advice in the age of multi-tasking. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Physician and best selling author Deepak Chopra is a pretty big believer in gadgets. He has high tech glasses on the market, called the Dream Weaver, that use sound and light to assist with meditation. He’s also a backer of the Basis health tracking watch. What Dr. Chopra is not a big believer in …is all of that multi-tasking around us. Checking email or texting while having a conversation is just one of many examples…
“The human brain and in fact the cortical brain cannot multi-task. It just cannot. There is another part of the brain, autonomic nervous system, that can. It’s taking care right now of your blood pressure, your heart rate, your immune system, etcetera. You don’t have to think about it. But if you have to do something consciously, you can only do one thing at a time. Multi-tasking is a myth. So if you’re checking your iPhone or email and talking to me at the same time, you’re doing neither.”
