Unique point and shoot camera: Canon's PowerShot N

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Looking for a unique point and shoot camera?  Canon’s very different PowerShot N.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   It’s not specs like being a 12 megapixel camera or an 8 times optical zoom that make the upcoming PowerShot N a different kind of camera.  It’s more the overall design and layout of the controls.  And the size, says marketing manager Ben Thomas, is tiny…

“It weighs less than seven ounces.  It is truly a pocketable camera.  When you look at the top of the camera what you’re going to notice is we’ve eliminated the typical shutter button and zoom lever.  You actually control the camera using two rings that sit right on top of the lens.  You push down on one of the rings or you can push up on the bottom to take your photo.  So it has a half and full press.  And you also have a zoom ring.  You move it left or right to zoom in and out.”

The screen tilts as well.  The PowerShot N is due to arrive in April for about three hundred dollars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
