A touch screen deadbolt you can control from your smartphone

Techstination feature for Monday, February 4, 2013

The latest in home automation: a touch screen deadbolt you can control from your smartphone.  I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   The well known lockmaker Schlage is out with a Touchscreen Deadbolt with lots of smarts.  It can connect to the company’s Nexia home automation system to allow you to control it via smartphone from anywhere and there are other valuable features including a built in alarm and a mode that enables the dead bolt to lock the door automatically, even if you forget to.  About the ruggedness of the Touchscreen Deadbolt outdoors, Schlage Brand Director Ann Mattheis says…

“This meets the highest residential security standards, a grade one deadbolt.  And it’s gone through all the testing the highest grade goes through.  We tested below minus twenty degrees Fahrenheit.  So it goes through some cold winters as well as hot summers.”

The Touchscreen Deadbolt sells for about two hundred dollars.  The Nexia system is additional.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
