Shedding light on the Luci solar powered lantern.

Techstination feature for Tuesday, February 26, 2013

A solar powered lantern that collapses into a flat disc.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   It is called Luci, a solar powered inflatable lantern from a company called MPowerd.   And the company is doing good with a pledge to give one lantern to families in energy deprived areas of the world for every one that is sold.   CEO Jacques Phillipe Piverger…

“In the developing world, it’s a life changer.  You have over three billion people globally who are either completely off the grid or they’re on the grid but can’t afford it.  And Luci will help them move up that economic ladder.  They are spending ten to thirty dollars a month just on gas for their kerosene lamps.  They’re nine times more likely to contract major pulmonary issues like lung cancer, asthma, pneumonia, than the general population due to kerosene lamp utilization.”

You can find Luci on Amazon for about 25 dollars.   There’s more info at Mpowerd.com.  You can find us with archives, full interviews and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
