More wireless charging on the way.

More wireless charging on the way….but it isn’t always simple.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     When it comes to putting your phone down on a surface and have it charge up without having to connect any wires….there are growing options out there.  There’s the Duracell Powermat line, the Qi standard…spelled Q I…and there’s more to come.   Qi compatibility will be an option offered in the 2014 Jeep Cherokee and the Toyota Prius and Avalon. About the competing standards…the Wireless Power Consortium’s LeRoy Johnson says…

“It sort of brings me back, and I’m an older engineer, brings me back to the Beta Max and VHS battles of days of old.  In my opinion Qi is so far ahead when it comes to traction, with over 200 devices already in the marketplace, that’s why our products are supporting the Qi standard.”

But the competing standards can make things confusing for consumers.     You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
