Garmin's HUD will turn smartphone navigation into heads up display

Techstination feature for Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Giving your smartphone navigation app a heads up display.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    A see through heads up display on a car windshield is available in some luxury vehicles.   Garmin is bringing it to the masses with a new 130 dollar device called the HUD.     Garmins Johan-Till Broer….

“The cool thing about this is when you’re driving you see all the navigation information you need, from where you have to turn, to your current speed, the speed limit, lane guidance, all of that, on the windshield and right in your own line of sight.”

The Garmin HUD sits on your dashboard a projects onto a thin clear film that goes on the windshield.  It connects through Bluetooth to your smartphone running one of Garmin’s navigation apps.   The display is able to adjust automatically to the brightness outside to retain visibility.   There’s more info at Garmin.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.
