Techstination feature for Monday, April 10, 2000

Creating a generation of wirelessly connected kids. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a ThirdAge.com report on computers and technology. While parents are walking around with little Palm organizers and wireless phones in their pockets, (sound), excuse me, let's turn that off, a company called Cybiko... that's C-y-b-i-k-o is trying to connect kids. Be warned, if you're a teacher, this could drive you crazy...

"Cybiko is really the first, wireless interactive gaming product on the market. It's targeted for teens and tweens or youth. It has the capability of having wireless chat, wireless gaming, interactive gaming as well and friend finding capability which allows you to find people in a network."

Company President Don Wisniewski. The Cybiko devices have some applications parents will love. A planner for homework assignments, language translation, calculators. But make no mistake... the big things here are the games and wireless chat...

What we're doing is we're allowing that activity now to go outside of the Web and literally go to wherever they are. The mall, theatres, in sporting events. Wherever they might be they can come together now and they can have that same kind of interactivity, that chatting, that wireless chatting, with one, a group of people, or up to 99 people all at the same time broadcasting messages within about 300 or 600 feet."

As we said, teacher's beware. The price, about 150 dollars. There's more information at Cybiko.com. You can find us at ThirdAge.com. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin for CBS News.
