Broadcast TV on mobile devices. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. There are some big plans for a service called Dyle mobile TV…operated by Mobile Content Venture. That’s a group comprised of broadcasters from around the country who are using the Dyle (spell) standard for broadcast signals that can be watched on smartphones and tablets that connect wirelessly to devices like the new Audiovox MobileTV. Co-general manager Salil Dalvi likens it to the old free over the air TV model…
“Well what Mobile TV does is it takes that concept and makes it mobile. This is a specially formatted signal that really basically turns your smartphone or your tablet into a television set.”
Without eating up your data plan….or even the need for WiFi. The Audiovox MobileTV device creates its own WiFi network. The service is only available in certain markets…and the channel pickings are limited…but the folks behind Dyle say that will change. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
