Livescribe 3 Smartpen arrives focused on iPhone & iPad

Techstination feature for Wednesday, November 27, 2013

The latest smartpen from Livescribe arrives.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Livescribe is a company that has been making smart pens or pen computers for more than five years.  You write on micro dot paper and a little camera captures what you write and that gets transferred to a computer or mobile device.  They also record audio which is synced to your written notes.  In the new Livescribe 3, made for iOS devices, your phone or tablet handles the audio recording, not the pen.  Marketing Director Bryan Rodrigues…

“The hardware itself has been completely redesigned and made much more like an elegant high end writing instrument.  The pen itself very much looks and feels like a pen.  You twist the ring in the middle of the pen to extract the ink and the pen turns on.  So you don’t have to worry about an on off switch.  And then you start writing.”

And what you write is transmitted via low power Bluetooth to your iPhone or iPad.  Android users, for now at least, can opt for the Livescribe Sky.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
