A big year for wearable technology

Techstination feature for Monday, December 30, 2013

It’s been a big year for wearable technology…and it’s just getting started.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Wearable technology comes in a variety of shapes and sizes.   There are lots of devices designed to help make you more fit.  One of my favorites this year has been the Basis B1 Band…which monitors your heart rate, steps and more…and serves as an attractive watch as well.  The Misfit Shine….a small lightweight motion tracking disc has the coolest design.   It uses a coin battery that lasts for months.  In the smart watch category, Samsung’s Galaxy Gear shows a lot of promise with the ability to run a variety of apps….including some in the fitness realm.  The camera built into the strap is one of the neatest features…but the Galaxy Gear only works with certain Samsung phones.   I’ve also been a fan of the original Martian Watch…with its elegant design.   I also like that it uses a standard micro USB plug for charging.   On the down side…the first generation doesn’t have the same capabilities of the Galaxy Gear.   But it’s all just getting started.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
