What lured Google to buy Nest Labs?   Innovation.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.       It’s a company created by some of the best talent from Apple…that in a short time span has created an innovative, Internet connected thermostat and more recently a connected smoke and carbon monoxide detector.   And now…for 3.2 billion dollars…Nest is a part of Google.   So what will be next?   At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show…just before the acquisition was announced…co-founder and VP of engineering Matt Rogers told me…

“Yes…we spend time talking to consumers and asking where their big pain points are.  We all have homes and part of the nice thing about building products is, we can build them for us too.  And we see where our own pain points are in our home.  We’ve done tons of brain storming sessions about where the hardest, low hanging fruits are and where are the things that we could actually bring a lot of value to, things that actually need design.”
