A new, lighter weight cleaning machine from Dyson

A new, lighter weight cleaning machine from Dyson.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    They’re well known for bringing a new level of engineering to the everyday vacuum cleaner.   And now, Dyson is out with a new cordless model, the DC 59, that according to  Senior Design Engineer Robert Green brings its cleaning power to the level of a normal plug in vacuum.   And at the same time…

“We’ve made it much lighter, it’s coming in at around 4.7 pounds.  It’s quieter.  And we’ve sort of tried to keep it as ergonomic and versatile as possible.  So we spent a lot of time making sure that it’s very easy to use, very maneuverable.  We made the trigger much softer for the user to be able to operate.”

The biggest drawback to the new Dyson may be the price tag of about 500 dollars.  But Green points out that what consumers are paying for isn’t just the parts that go into it…but the engineering and testing that it takes to create it.   There’s more info at Dyson.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
