Blacksumac’s Piper arrives for do it yourself home security.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Piper is the name of clever gadget from Blacksumac that you can put in any room of the house…and it will watch and listen and monitor even the temperature.   In addition, it can control other gadgets…from door and window locks to light switches that use ZWave wireless technology.   CEO Russell Ure says it may look like a wide angle network camera…but…

“It’s a full computer.  It’s a Linux operating system running on an ARM processor.  It has a bunch of sensors, a motion detector, it has a microphone for two way audio.  It has a 105dB siren so basically if the security system gets triggered, it will scare the bejeezus out of anybody.”

Initially…there’s only iOS support for control from your smartphone but Android is on the way.   And you can use multiple Pipers throughout the home.   The price…239 dollars.  There’s more info at GetPiper.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
