On the horizon for DIY automation: WigWag

What’s on the horizon for do it yourself home automation?   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     There are lots of big companies getting into the home automation business these days.   Staples and Lowes have created kits…and Google’s purchase of Nest…just to name a few.   But there are startups doing some interesting things too.  One, called WigWag has raised funds on Kickstarter for a system of sensors and apps designed for everyday living.     Co-founder Ed Hemphill says you won’t have to get involved in a big, complicated project…

“So with WigWag you can kind of go as you want.  If you want to set up something extremely simple…just send me a text message when my teenager walks into the kitchen after 5pm, you can set that up really simply on your iPhone.  That’s all you have to do is just set that rule.  It allows people to get simple experiences and small things that they would like to know without having to get into a really huge project.”

The first kits will be out this spring.   There’s more info at WigWag.com.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
