Craftsmanship in a phone case.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Grovemade is a company that was started by a couple of friends…one a furniture maker…the other in graphic design.    And the wood cases they create for iPhones and iPads really are works of art.   What sets them apart?  Co-founder Ken Tomita…

“The biggest difference with us is that we manufacture our goods.   We’re both designer and manufacturer.   I was making and designing furniture myself.  And my belief, when I was doingfurniture, was that the end product was better.  I could change the design on the fly.   So we kind of do the same process where we’ll design while we’re making it.”

The quality isn’t cheap.   A typical walnut, maple or bamboo case for an iPhone sells for about 99 dollars.  There are also docks and even wooden backs designed for the MacBook Air.   There’s more info at Grovemade.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
